Two GTA Positions:

The Graduate Technology Assistant (GTA) position is classified during enrolled semesters as an IA or Instructional Assistant.  In holding this position, the graduate student is provided the opportunity to apply for a GATF International Student waiver, insurance benefits, and receive compensation for 20 hours per week of work The position is considered to be .50 FTE employment, of which .25  is funded through the employing college and .25 through Academic Affairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The GTA position is funded to provide faculty support. GTAs work directly with faculty and Instructional Designers to provide everyday support needed to develop electronic course material.  Students work directly with the material provided by faculty.  

The GTA will often be asked to:

  • scan material
  • help to develop the material needed in electronic format
  • help create electronically formatted quizzes
  • help with WebCT issues
  • provide whatever help the Instructional Designer will need in developing material.
  • provide assistance with the creation of electronic presentations (i.e. PowerPoint)  

Students will be required to be proficient in and called upon to use all skills submitted on their resume.  GTAs are also required to attend WebCT workshops and become knowledgeable in the use of WebCT Vista. 

GTA’s may be called on during the semester to help with seminars, conferences or meetings hosted by ETUO.

Several times each semester students will be required to attend the GTA meeting designed to build a community of support among the student group.
